I once heard someone say that GarageGames is like a cockroach that never dies. Truth be told, the heart of GarageGames has always been the community that drives it and GarageGames "formal" hasn't played a role in GG for nearly as long as we did (i.e. GG truly has a life of it's own).

We (I) continue to run GG.com and are happy to do so, but I fear that we don't have much in the way of redundancy and I worry that the lights will go out unexpectedly. At some point, this site will "break" and there won't be the funds to fix it. I'm writing this to start a dialog on how we can preserve this information and make it accessible in a more sustainable way.

Or, maybe it's a loosing battle and you don't rely on the site?

Here are some things to consider:

    1) Many of the items in your account are in a fuzzy state of ownership. Many of the contracts are archived/missing so we can't open source something we don't own 100%. For example, GG doesn't own 100% of TGE code which is why it isn't open sourced by us.

    2) We will need to sanitize everything to protect personally identifiable information.

    3) We would consider selling the site/assets for a profit generating concern provided that the users best interests are preserved.

    4) We would consider giving away sanitized information under a CC license.

@Dennis - The master server was ported twice so there was downtime for that. What are you seeing?

Sad to hear about GG possibly going offline. It doesn't seem too long ago that I started experimenting with and working with Torque 3D, but according to my profile (Member since: November 4, 2002), I guess it has been quite some time ago now. I will download items from my account for safe keeping.

@Eric: Thanks for picking up the site and keeping it going for as long as you have.

    Quick update.

I have what I believe to be a sanitized dump file saved in the cloud. It's over two gigs but I've been able to do some basic regular expression tests to give me some confidence that I've cleared out as much PII as possible.

But it's so slow to search and I'd like to be more thorough before publishing it.

In the meantime, you can email me at account@www.twsanpi.cn and I'll add you to a list to receive a sanitized copy should the site go down. If you would like to work on a mirror today, let me know and maybe we can work something out something sooner.

That's cool that it is still around. I am looking to work with this engine. I have been a member for a long time back when you had to pay a lot of money for it actually. i sill use it from time to time. If there's anyway I can help let me know. Performing active development, documentation etc. ...

i can be reached at caolan@aeshna.net

    Caolan:

Hey man, we're always cool with people wanting to help out! :)

If there's anything you have a particular interest towards working on(rendering stuff, gameplay, documentation, etc) I'm sure we've got something that needs some poking that could use someone doing it.

Currently, the big thing we're trying to wrap up is the PBR side of things, but after that it'll be a focus on the entity/component stuff and examples and modules for the gameplay templates.

If you're keen to that, hit me up, or you can message me/post a thread on the new forums so we can pick out some stuff for you to get hammering on.

Torque 3D is like a skill that once you learn it, it can never leave your system.

I'm grateful that Eric & co made this amazing engine MIT.

T3D taught me a lot of what I know about game development.

I've used CryEngine, UE4 and Unity for years, and not a single one gave me the development satisfaction that I got from using T3D.

It was actually T3D that made using CryEngine very painless.

I hope to contribute to the community by giving something back for free.

Need to go through my archives and revive my 3D fantasy weapons pack :-)

Sad to see you wind things down, but in the end ?

You got a strong community that will never let this amazing engine die.

    VIVA TORQUE 3D!

Contributing your resources to the engine is a good idea, better then letting it sit unused forever.
But better post on the active community forum: http://forums.torque3d.org
    or join the IRC channel.
And if you don't have time convertig stuff to the latest engine build, there may be people willing to help out with that.

    Hey Eric,

It's sad to see GG reaching an end, but I guess that's the story. I'm still keeping safe TX2D with all its source code and history, I'll be glad to safekeep GG resources as well and republishing the sanitized website to keep GG available. My current server can easily host it, so feel free to get in touch with me if you feel my offer is worth.

    Bests,
    Pino

    @Johnathan I mean, it looks like it's running ;)

As Full Fail inquired, what are you looking for? If you're looking for discussion, I'd recommend the new forums at forums.torque3d.org which is the newer discussion boards.

The website is still up but activity is basically down to zero, all forum activity is on http://forums.torque3d.org/ as Jeff pointed out. Sorry for this.

Hi, I'm the guy in charge of T2D. Is it possible I could get full admin rights to the GarageGames/Toque2D repository on GitHub? I'm part of the GG organization on GitHub but I don't have full admin rights over the repository. I'm worried that if GG really shuts down entirely that nobody will have those rights anymore. Right now I'd like to use TravisCI with T2D but I can't without full admin rights. My posting here about this show's just how poor the communication situation has already become.

    Hey Peter,

I emailed Eric about TravisCI(as they recently started offering it for free for open source projects) and he got the github app installed.

I haven't messed with the config settings yet, but obviously if you run into any trouble, either mail Eric or me so we can get it hammered out. Because we definitely both want some proper CI :)

Also, feel free to swing over to the discord. I'm on there pretty much at all times.

I just wanted to say I miss working with T3D.
Any and all resources I have posted are being given to all in the community.
So my few resources are to be considered open source as far as I am concerned.
My biggest source was the Tank resource modifications. I have at this time moved to UE4 but really just cant fully walk away from T3D. I was at it too long. I may even dig out my master server system and post that on my website at some point for download.

Go for it people. Never let it die :)

Good to hear you've OK'd those being open John :)
We just recently updated the main torque3d website over at torque3d.org and have started working at consolidating the spread of resources and documentation from here and other places for the torque engines, so definitely topical to that end.

If nothing else, I'd say feel free to come hang out in the Torque3D discord server if you still feel that itch. We're more than happy to chat, get feedback and you can see how things have been moving along :)
