    Torque 2D MIT: New Committee and Next Steps

    Greetings everyone! Long time, no blog. I'll keep it short and sweet. Torque 2D MIT has been at a standstill for a few months now. For anyone who follows the GitHub feed, you may have noticed a recently flood of fixes and pull requests. I was recently contacted by Peter Robinson, who wishes to take over the engine, rebuild the committee, and push T2D to the next level.

    New Steering Committee Announcement

    A new steering committee has formed for Torque 2D MIT! Lead by veteran torque user Peter Robinson, the small but determined committee hopes to revive the engine. The plan is simple: increase the user base. They've already begun work on the next release of the engine, but they need help. Torque 2D is on life support right now with an active user base in the single digits. The survivors need to band together! If you actively use the engine for a serious project, you need to join the steering committee.

    To make this easier, that charter has been updated. Now to join the committee, you only need to be an expert in one area that is useful to Torque2D including TorqueScript. So even if you've never looked under the hood you can still join the committee and help shape the future of the engine.

    If you don't want to join the committee but still want to help, you can help by spreading the word. This is especially true after the releases start coming out. Each release will include bug fixes, new features, and useful modules to help development happen faster. Another way to help is by testing the releases before they come out.

    We hope you'll get behind this effort to save Torque2D. It seems like there's a new 2D engine coming out every day, but we believe that Torque 2D MIT remains the best kept secret of the 2D world. With help, we can revive it.

    Consider me interested in a committee spot. Torque2D has a lot to offer and it's a shame to see it die on the vine.

    I have stepped away from T2D recently but I will help where I can. I can definitely see me using it in future projects. It had been my engine of choice for all of my ios projects.

    Whoo! Congrats! Again, I wish I had the experience/drive/time management to be able to contribute in more meaningful ways for this project. I stood behind my decision for selecting the Torque TGE and Torque 2D game engines for the small indie dev startup I was once a part of, but it never got off the ground.

    I kept working with T2D for my hobbyist and learning projects, though, and still find it to be good engine. A little polishing and Torque 2D MIT can be a great engine!

    Can these ghosts help me 2 get torque 3d by any chance? I'm enrolled in Stratford Career Institute I got the game design course through them, I would like 2 download this game software, I don't want 2 get a bad download, is this torque 3d free???

    that's like a lot 2 download I would have no idea what 2 do with it all wow! unity, game maker, blender, unreal engine & many more has 1 down load ouch!! well thank u 4 ur time

    @johnathan - In case you reconsider, it's really only one download required to start using T3D. The rest are purely optional, mainly art content. Anyway, I'm not here to change anyone's mind. Just here to provide answers. Best of luck with your game development!
